Bhagavan Sri Krishna, while sharing His immortal wisdom in the Bhagavad-gita, declared: yadā yadā hi dharmasya glānir bhavati bhārata abhyutthānam adharmasya tadātmānaṁ sṛjāmy aham Whenever and wherever there is a decline in religious practice, O descendant of Bharata, and a predominant rise of irreligion—at that time I descend Myself. (Lord Krishna in Bhagavad-gita 4.7) In His avatara as Sri Ramachandra, He answered the prayers of the devatas by killing Ravana and his demoniac army. Devotees celebrate the Lord's victory worldwide every year as Sri Vijayadashami, also called Dussehra.
