I’m reminded of these beautiful lines from W. H. Davies’ poem Leisure: “What is this life if, full of care, We have no time to stand and stare.” By “care,” he means being burdened with worries, responsibilities, concerns and busyness. And isn’t that increasingly true of our lives today? We are constantly doing, responding, rushing, planning, solving and moving from one thing to another. But how often do we pause? A pause is not necessarily about doing nothing. Sometimes, it is what helps us see more clearly what needs to be done. When we pause, we can reflect on which part of our life needs our attention the most right now. Our health? Our relationships? Our work? Our inner life? We may not always be able to attend to everything immediately. But even the awareness that something needs our attention can help us prioritise it when we are in a position to do so. And a pause offers us something else too. It allows us to notice the small joys we otherwise rush past. To be truly present with the people we love. To reconnect with ourselves. And perhaps, to simply appreciate life rather than constantly trying to manage it. Life will always have its share of “care.” But amidst all that we have to do, perhaps we also need a little time to simply be. Because sometimes, pausing isn’t stopping life. It is making sure we don’t miss it. #WorkLifeBalance #Overthinking #Pause #GaurGopalDas #YouCanHaveItAll
