What happened may have been a fact, but what we tell ourselves about what happened is often an interpretation. Sometimes, our interpretation matches the facts. When it does, we need to acknowledge what happened, address it and deal with it appropriately. But sometimes, we may have misunderstood an intention, made an assumption or filled in the gaps with our own fears, insecurities or past experiences. And then, it is not only what happened that affects us, but the story we continue to tell ourselves about what happened. So, whenever possible, ask before assuming. Clarify before concluding. And perhaps before reacting, overthinking or carrying something for too long, it helps to ask: What actually happened? And what am I telling myself about what happened? The difference between the two can sometimes change everything. #RelationshipAdvice #Communication #Misunderstandings #GaurGopalDas #YouCanHaveItAll
