Do you feel full, tight or uncomfortable after eating, even when your meals are healthy? Bloating can occur when gut bacteria ferment certain carbohydrates, when some foods are difficult to digest, or when you swallow excess air while eating. The triggers differ from person to person. In this video, Hansaji explains five food groups that may contribute to bloating and simple ways to make meals more comfortable. 5 foods that may trigger bloating: 1. Beans and legumes: Rajma, chole, chickpeas and dals contain fermentable carbohydrates and fibre. Soak dried legumes, discard the soaking water, rinse thoroughly and cook until soft. Begin with moderate portions. 2. Cruciferous vegetables: Broccoli, cauliflower and cabbage contain fermentable carbohydrates and sulphur-containing compounds. Cooking them and adjusting portion sizes may improve tolerance. Apples: Fructose and sorbitol in apples can trigger bloating in people who absorb them poorly. Papaya, oranges or other fruits may suit some people better. 3. Milk and dairy products: Lactose intolerance can cause gas, bloating and abdominal discomfort. Curd may be better tolerated by some people, while lactose-free milk is another option. 4. Nuts and seeds: Almonds, walnuts, chia seeds and flaxseeds provide valuable nutrients, but large portions can add substantial fibre and fat, which may cause discomfort in some people. Eating habits that can make a difference 1. Eat slowly and chew thoroughly. 2. Keep portions comfortable rather than eating one very large meal. 3. Increase fibre gradually and drink adequate fluids. 4. Notice which foods repeatedly trigger symptoms instead of eliminating entire food groups without a reason. 5. Try a few minutes of comfortable Yogendra Vajrasana after meals if it suits your knees, or practise gentle breathing to relax before eating. Remember, nutritious foods do not need to be feared. Learn your personal triggers, prepare foods appropriately and find portions your digestive system tolerates comfortably. 00:00 – Why Does Bloating Happen? 01:10 – Food 1: Beans and Legumes 02:34 – Food 2: Cruciferous Vegetables 04:07 – Food 3: Apples 05:10 – Food 4: Milk and Dairy Products 06:30 – Food 5: Nuts and Seeds 07:20 – Eating Habits That Cause Bloating 06:40 – Simple Ways to Improve Digestion 08:00 – Yoga for Better Digestion 08:23 – Calm Your Mind, Support Your Digestion Watch & Subscribe to our NEW TYI Shorts Channel!
