Are you choosing foods labelled natural, multigrain, sugar-free or healthy because you think they are automatically better for your blood sugar? Some foods that appear healthy can contain added sugars, concentrated carbohydrates or large portions that may raise blood glucose more than you expect. JOIN OUR 7-DAY YOGIC DETOX & REJUVENATION CAMP Take 7 days to step away from the everyday rush and immerse yourself in Yoga, Pranayama, Meditation, Sattvik Food, Relaxation & Yogic Living at The Yoga Institute, Mumbai. 📍 On Campus, Mumbai 🏡 Residential & Non-Residential options 👉 Learn more & register: https://shorturl.at/fLOcE In this video, you will learn about five foods and food categories to watch: • Fruit juice and large fruit smoothies — whole fruit generally provides more fibre and chewing, while juicing concentrates the sugars and removes much of the fibre. • Flavoured yoghurt — packaged fruit and flavoured yoghurts may contain added sugar. Plain unsweetened curd or yoghurt can be a better everyday choice. • Granola and breakfast cereals — oats, nuts and seeds may be nutritious, but packaged products can also contain sugar, honey, syrups and dried fruits. • Dried fruits — dates, raisins and figs can provide nutrients, but removing water makes them much more concentrated, so portion size matters. • “Healthy” breads and wraps — brown, multigrain, seeded and whole-wheat labels do not tell the whole story. Check the ingredient list, fibre content and serving size. The goal is not to eliminate carbohydrates. Your body needs carbohydrates for energy. Instead, pay attention to the type and quantity, and combine carbohydrate-rich foods with protein, fibre and healthy fats. For example, pair whole-grain toast with paneer or unsweetened nut butter and vegetables, or have a smaller fruit smoothie with nuts or seeds. You can also support metabolic health with regular movement. A 10–15 minute walk after a meal allows working muscles to take up glucose and is a simple habit to include in your routine. Yoga practices such as Yogendra Mandukasana, along with Yogendra Pranayama No. 1 or Bhramari, can complement an active lifestyle. Remember: read the ingredients, check the portion, balance your meals and move after eating. Managing blood sugar is not about eating less and less. It is about becoming more aware of what you eat, how much you eat and how you combine your food. Watch & Subscribe to our NEW TYI Shorts Channel!
